PriceHunter is operated from Aotearoa New Zealand and complies with the Privacy Act 2020. This page explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, who we share it with, and how to exercise your rights.
What we collect
Browsing data: pages you visit, the deals you open, the searches you run, and the retailer links you click through to. We use this in aggregate to rank deals and improve the site.
Click-through events: when you press a “Get this price” or “Visit shop” button, our /go/[slug] endpoint records the deal, the retailer, and a timestamp before redirecting you. We don't pass your identity to the retailer.
Account data (optional): if you sign in to set price alerts or build a wishlist, we store your email address and the products you've saved. Authentication is handled by NextAuth.
Device data: standard server logs (IP address, user agent, referrer) kept for up to 30 days for security and abuse detection.
Cookies: a session cookie for sign-in, a store-preference cookie for FreshChoice and SuperValue (so prices match your local store), and analytics cookies described below.
Why we collect it
To rank the cheapest verified offer first, surface relevant deals on the home page, route “Get this price” clicks to the right retailer, deliver price-drop alerts you've opted into, and keep the service secure.
Affiliate cookies set by retailers and networks
When you click a money link, the retailer's affiliate network (Commission Factory, Impact Radius, Mighty Ape Affiliates, or ShopBack) may drop a cookie on your browser. That cookie tells the network the click came from PriceHunter so we're paid a commission if you buy. It does not give us access to your purchase details, payment information, or account on the retailer's site. Read more on our affiliate disclosure page.
Third parties we share data with
Hosting: Vercel Inc. (United States) hosts the site and processes request logs.
Database: a managed Postgres provider stores deal, retailer and account data.
Authentication: NextAuth handles sign-in; if you use a social provider its terms apply for that handshake.
Affiliate networks: Commission Factory, Impact Radius, Mighty Ape Affiliates and ShopBack receive a click event (no personal identifiers) when you press a money link.
Analytics: we use privacy-respecting page-view analytics. No advertising pixels run on PriceHunter.
We don't sell or rent personal information to anyone.
How long we keep data
Account email and wishlist data are kept until you delete your account. Click and search logs are retained for up to 24 months to detect abuse and improve rankings. Raw server logs roll off after 30 days.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you may request access to the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. To make a request, email info@jwsoat.com from the address tied to your account. We respond within 20 working days. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Children
PriceHunter is for general audiences and not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone in that age group.
Changes
Material changes are dated above. We'll surface significant updates in-app where they affect you directly.
