PriceHunter is an independent price-comparison and deals site for Aotearoa New Zealand. We make money through affiliate commissions when readers buy through some of our outbound links. This page explains exactly how that works, which networks pay us, and why our rankings stay editorial.
In one paragraph
When you press a button like “Get this price”, “Visit shop”, or “Activate cashback”, you may pass through an affiliate link before landing on the retailer's site. If you buy, the retailer's network pays PriceHunter a small commission — typically a few percent of the sale. It costs you nothing extra, the price is the same as if you'd gone direct, and the commission never decides which deal we rank first.
Networks and partners we work with
Commission Factory (an Awin company) — Australia & NZ retailers including selected electronics, fashion and home brands.
Impact Radius (impact.com) — international and trans-Tasman programmes carried on the Impact platform.
Mighty Ape Affiliates — direct programme for Mighty Ape NZ.
ShopBack — referral partner for the cashback service we surface alongside grocery and electronics deals.
We aren't paid by retailers directly for placement and we don't accept sponsored deals.
How rankings actually work
Deals are ranked by the verified retailer price, then by recency of the price check, then by stock status. A retailer paying us a higher commission rate never moves above a cheaper competitor. If two retailers are tied on price, we surface them both — order is alphabetical, not commercial. The ranking logic lives in code that you can see by inspecting any product page.
What you should know about clicks
Pressing a money link drops a tracking cookie set by the affiliate network — not by us — that lets the network attribute your visit to PriceHunter. It expires after a window the network sets (commonly 1–30 days). It doesn't tell us anything personal about your purchase: we see a click event with the retailer and deal, nothing more. Cashback specifically
Cashback is paid by ShopBack, not PriceHunter. Rates change without notice, are subject to ShopBack's own terms, and can be voided by returns or non-tracking. We re-verify headline rates regularly and show the date they were checked. If you sign up to ShopBack through one of our links, PriceHunter receives a small one-off referral fee.
Editorial independence
We don't accept paid product reviews or sponsored deals.
We don't hide non-affiliated retailers — every NZ retailer with a verified price is eligible to rank first.
We disclose the commercial relationship clearly on every page where a money link appears (in the footer, on deal detail pages, and on retailer pages).
We follow the Commerce Commission's guidance on the Fair Trading Act 1986 and FTC-style “material connection” norms for affiliate content.
Questions or corrections
If you think a deal is mispriced, a retailer link is broken, or our disclosure isn't clear enough, email info@jwsoat.com — we read every message and fix issues fast.
