(Boy) George O'Dowd was, and is, a very soulful singer. His tone, his phrasing and delivery were all born out of classic soul of the '60s and '70s. The singersongwriter Boy George is strongly inspired by the calypso rhythms and melodies that were a big part of early Motown hits, especially those written by Smokey Robinson. This 1982 album opens with the single "White Boy" with Boy George rapping at the end. Boy George's voice often bled with bruised emotion, particularly on the single "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?" But other noteworthy tracks include the disco-flavored "Take Control," the calypso bite of "You Know I'm Not Crazy" and the reggae lilt of "Love Control." This extended version contains 4 bonus tracks including "Time (Clock Of The Heart)."
