AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic Album series with a re-mastered 2CD release from Ronnie Scott, complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details. “Ronnie Scott Orchestra & Tony Crombie: At The Royal Festival Hall”; “Ronnie Scott & Various Artists: Jazz At The Flamingo”; “The Ronnie Scott Sextet: Presenting The Ronnie Scott Sextet” and “Tubby Hayes & The Jazz Couriers: Featuring Ronnie Scott”. Another release from AVID in their occasional series featuring legendary British jazz stars. We were going to call it Little Britain but we heard that name’s already been taken! Following our recent release featuring perhaps the most famous British jazz man of all, Tubby Hayes (AMSC1456) we are proud to present East London’s own Jazz Night Club owner and tenor sax giant Mr. Ronnie Scott. Anyone interested in British jazz will of course have heard of Ronnie Scott but it’s quite staggering to take a look at his CV and discover just how many jazz greats he has played with. The list is indeed endless. Tubby Hayes, of course featured here with The Jazz Couriers, Johnny Dankworth, Ted Heath, Stan Tracey, Ambrose, Phil Seamen. Victor Feldman, Benny Green, Tony Crombie, John Surman, Kenny Wheeler and of course his partner in the famed Ronnie’s Jazz Club, Pete King, and many more. And that’s hardly mentioning the jazz players across the pond like Johnny Griffin, Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis and composer, arranger Tadd Dameron. Ronnie of course was also highly influenced by the emerging be bop scene, dominated by Charlie Parker and his new breed of young guns in New York City where he got to visit while serving as a musician on the Queen Mary from 1946-50.
